A question regarding 40 + 90% coinage
Do US coins that contain silver weigh more (or less) than their clad counterparts? This may be a stupid question but I've always been curious.

Yes--because silver is denser than copper and steel.

According to the mint when struck:
90% Ag Dime: 2.5 grams; Clad Dime: 2.27 grams 90% Ag Quarter: 6.25 grams; Clad Quarter: 5.67 grams 90% Ag Half Dollar: 12.5 grams; Clad Half Dollar: 11.34 grams |

40% kennedy half, 11.50 grams according to 2006 Red Book:confused_ma:1965-1970.

No, sorry; don't have a link. The information is in Yoeman's Red Book of U.S. Coins.
Their "Blue" Book with dealer prices doesn't provide this kind of detailed information. |
